Last updated: 22 July 2026
WatchOwl, published by Rémi Comoretto (sole trader), trading as Lithiuw Studio ("we", "our app"), is committed to protecting its users' privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it and how you can control it.
1. Data we collect
When you use WatchOwl, we may collect:
- Account information: email address, display name, profile picture (via Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In)
- Film profile: answers to the preferences quiz (genres, runtime, language)
- Usage history: films viewed, watchlist, films marked as seen
- Session data: moods selected, platforms chosen, results returned
- Technical data: device identifier, app version, country detected via the store

1a. Beta sign-up (website)
The "Join the beta" form on this site collects your nickname and Gmail address, for one purpose only: adding you to the Google Play testers list and sending you the beta invitation. This data is collected via Google Forms (Google Ireland Ltd), is not shared with anyone else, is never used for marketing, and is deleted at the latest at the end of the beta period. You can request its deletion at any time at the contact address below.
2. How we use your data
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Provide you with personalised film recommendations via AI (Google Gemini)
- Remember your preferences and history between sessions
- Display film information via the TMDB API
- Manage your Owly+ purchase via RevenueCat
- Improve the quality of recommendations
3. Data sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We use third-party providers solely to run the app:
- Google Firebase — data storage, authentication, push notifications (Cloud Messaging) and crash reports (Crashlytics)
- Google Gemini AI — generating recommendations
- The Movie Database (TMDB) — film information
- RevenueCat — in-app purchase management
- Letterboxd, Trakt.tv, IMDb — only if you connect these services, to import your films
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Union (notably in the United States). Such transfers are governed by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
4. Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all your data from Settings → Delete my account.
5. Security
All data is stored on Google Firebase's secure servers, encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Access to your data is restricted to your account through Firestore security rules.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

- Right to rectification
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to data portability
- Right to object to processing
To exercise these rights, contact us at owly watchowl.app.
